Twilio number pricing

How much does a Twilio phone number cost per month?

Last updated September 7, 2026

The number is the cheapest line on a cold caller’s Twilio bill and the one people most often get wrong, because Twilio’s pricing page shows the fee but not how it is billed, and a calling team never holds just one. Prices below were read from Twilio’s US, Canada and UK pricing pages and its billing help center on September 7, 2026.

Twilio phone number monthly cost by type (US)

Number typeMonthly feeInbound callsFor a cold caller
US local (any area code)$1.15 / mo$0.0085 / minThe one to buy. Local caller ID, cheapest callbacks.
US toll-free (8xx)$2.15 / mo$0.0220 / minReads as a business line, not a neighbour. Rarely worth it for outbound.
Emergency (E911) registration$0.75 / mo per numberOnly if you register a number for 911; most dialers never do.

Twilio’s published US list prices on September 7, 2026. Outbound calls from either number type are ~$0.014/min; the full per-minute price list is in the Twilio voice pricing guide linked below.

Two things the pricing page leaves out. First, both number types dial out at the same ~$0.014/min; the difference between them is what you pay when someone calls you back, and what the prospect sees on their screen. Second, capability does not change the price for US numbers: a local number with voice, SMS and MMS is still $1.15. What does change the price is the country.

Twilio US local number monthly pricing vs Canada and the UK

CountryLocal numberMobile numberToll-free number
United States$1.15 / mo$2.15 / mo
Canada$1.15 / mo$2.15 / mo
United Kingdom$3.50 / mo$2.50 / mo$2.70 / mo

Read from Twilio’s per-country voice pricing pages on September 7, 2026. Other countries vary widely and many require an address or a regulatory bundle before a number can be issued; check the country page before budgeting.

The UK is the case that catches teams out: the number costs three times the US rate, and outbound calls to UK mobiles are priced above landlines. A team calling both markets should budget them as two lines. If you are calling UK prospects, the rules that go with the number are in power dialers in the UK.

How Twilio bills a phone number: up front, monthly, no proration

Twilio’s own help center states the rules plainly. When you provision a number you are billed the full monthly price up front, and Twilio does not prorate. The number then bills on the same calendar day every month (a number bought on the 31st moves to the last day of shorter months). If you make no calls and send no messages, you are still charged the monthly fee. Usage is billed separately on top. And a suspended project keeps being charged for the numbers it holds.

  • Buy a number on the 10th and you pay $1.15 that day, then on the 10th of every month until you release it.
  • Release it on the 12th and there is no refund for the rest of the month; buy a replacement and that is a fresh $1.15.
  • A number that made zero calls this month costs $1.15. A number that made 3,000 calls costs $1.15 plus the minutes.
  • Numbers on a suspended account keep billing, so a team that stops calling for a quarter should release its spares first.

How many Twilio phone numbers does a cold caller need?

Carriers do not publish a dials-per-day limit, but a number that makes too many short, unanswered calls gets labelled “Spam Likely” and stops connecting. A working ceiling for typical B2B cold calling is about 75 dials a day per number; the reasoning, and how it moves with answer rate and call length, is in how many calls a day before a number gets flagged. Divide a rep’s daily dials by that ceiling and round up, then hold one spare per rep so a flagged number can be swapped the same morning.

40 dials a day1 number$1.15 a month. Founder or part-time caller.
150 dials a day2 numbers$2.30 a month. Full-time SDR on a power dialer.
400 dials a day6 numbers$6.90 a month. Parallel dialer, three lines open.

Buying more than that does not help. Ten fresh numbers each making a handful of unanswered calls a day look worse to carrier analytics than two well-behaved ones. The buying decision in full, including whose name the numbers should be in, is worked through in how many phone numbers a calling team needs.

The monthly number bill for one, three, five and ten reps

The arithmetic, at $1.15 per number: a light profile of about 40 dials a day per rep, a heavy profile of about 150, and the heavy profile with one spare number per rep for rotation.

RepsLight (1 number each)Heavy (2 each)Heavy plus a spare each
1 rep1 × $1.15 = $1.152 × $1.15 = $2.303 × $1.15 = $3.45
3 reps3 × $1.15 = $3.456 × $1.15 = $6.909 × $1.15 = $10.35
5 reps5 × $1.15 = $5.7510 × $1.15 = $11.5015 × $1.15 = $17.25
10 reps10 × $1.15 = $11.5020 × $1.15 = $23.0030 × $1.15 = $34.50

Numbers only. Minutes are billed on top; the worked bill for a full-time rep is in the Twilio voice pricing guide.

Put beside the software: a ten-rep team on DialSheet Pro is $200 a month of software ($29 for the first seat, $19 for each of the other nine) and about $34.50 of numbers even at the heavy profile with spares. The numbers are a rounding error; the minutes are the line to watch.

What a number costs when someone else holds the Twilio account

On your own Twilio account the number is $1.15 and you own it. Anywhere else, the number is bundled into a seat price, and the honest comparison is what an extra number costs. That includes DialSheet’s own no-Twilio option: a DialSheet-managed line is $49/month with one local number and 1,500 minutes included, and each additional caller ID on it is $10 a month, about 9 times Twilio’s rate, because the line carries the account, the number registration and the carrier relationship for you. Per-seat dialers work the same way: one number per user is usually inside the seat, and extras are an add-on. If you rotate numbers aggressively, the $1.15 rate on your own account is the cheapest way to do it by a wide margin; if you hold one number and never think about it, the bundled price is fine.

The gates before Twilio lets you buy or use a number

The monthly fee is the easy part. Three things stop a cold caller from using the number they just paid for:

  • An address or regulatory bundle. Many countries, and some US number types, require a verified address before Twilio issues the number (console error 21631). What each requirement means and how long it takes is in Twilio says the phone number requires an address.
  • The Business Profile, if your account was created outside the US or Canada. Since 8 October 2025 such accounts cannot call +1 numbers until an approved Business Primary Customer Profile is in place, no matter how many US numbers they buy. Offshore teams should dial from the US client’s own account instead; see a US phone number for cold calling from abroad.
  • Geo permissions. Outbound calling to a country is off until you enable it in the console; error 13227 is the number telling you so. Twilio error 13227 and 21215 walks through it.

Releasing, replacing and porting numbers

Release a number from the console and its monthly fee stops at the next bill date, with no refund for the current month. Replacing a flagged number is a fresh $1.15 and, more importantly, a fresh warm-up: a new number that starts at full volume gets flagged faster than the one it replaced, so ramp it (warming up a new number). If you already own a number elsewhere, porting it in means it bills at the normal monthly rate once it lands; the steps for the common carriers are in porting a number to Twilio from OpenPhone or Google Voice.

Common questions

How much does a Twilio phone number cost per month?

A US local phone number on Twilio costs $1.15 a month and a US toll-free number costs $2.15 a month, as published on Twilio’s US voice pricing page on September 7, 2026. The monthly fee is charged in full on the day you provision the number and again on the same day each month until you release it; Twilio does not prorate. Calls and messages are billed on top at pay-as-you-go rates, so a number you never use still costs its monthly fee.

Is a Twilio phone number billed monthly or per use?

Both, separately. Every Twilio number carries a monthly recurring charge ($1.15 for a US local number) that is billed up front the moment the number is provisioned and on that same calendar day every month after. Usage, meaning the calls you make and receive on it, is billed on top at pay-as-you-go rates, for example ~$0.014/min for a US outbound call. Twilio’s help center is explicit that if you do not use the number at all you are still charged the monthly fee.

Do I get charged for a Twilio number I am not using?

Yes. Twilio bills the monthly recurring charge for every provisioned number whether or not it made or received a call that month, and it keeps billing numbers on a suspended project. The only way to stop the charge is to release the number from the console, and there is no refund for the remainder of the month you already paid for. For a cold caller that makes number hygiene a budgeting item: hold the numbers you actually rotate through, and release the ones that have been flagged and retired.

How much do Twilio phone numbers cost in Canada and the UK?

A Canadian local number is $1.15 a month and a Canadian toll-free number $2.15, the same as the US, per Twilio’s Canada pricing page on September 7, 2026. The UK is different: a UK local (geographic) number is $3.50 a month, a UK mobile number $2.50 and a UK toll-free number $2.70, and outbound calls to UK mobiles cost more per minute than to landlines. Most other countries fall between those two, and many require an address or a regulatory bundle before the number is issued.

How many Twilio phone numbers do I need for cold calling?

Divide each rep’s daily dials by a safe per-number ceiling and round up. There is no published carrier threshold, but 75 dials a day per number is a workable figure for typical B2B cold calling, so a rep making 150 dials a day needs 2 numbers and a rep making 40 needs 1. Add one spare per rep so a flagged number can be swapped without a gap. At $1.15 each, a five-rep team running two numbers apiece plus spares pays about $17 a month for numbers, which is less than one seat of most per-seat dialers.

Can I get a Twilio phone number for free?

Not permanently. A Twilio trial account comes with $15 of credit, which covers a $1.15 number and a few hundred minutes of test calls, but a trial account can only call numbers you have verified, plays a trial message before each call, and holds one number, so it is not usable for a real list. Upgrading the account costs nothing beyond the usage; there is no monthly platform fee. The number itself is always $1.15 a month once you are past the trial credit.
